Commencement Marks Second Degree for Aztec Staffer

Unlike many of the more than 10,000 degrees awarded to graduating SDSU students last month, Theresa Garcia’s (’91, ’09) master’s won’t be used in a search for employment in a challenging economic environment. She already has a job she loves in student affairs at San Diego State.
Garcia never intended to become a student affairs professional – she received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from SDSU in 1991. But, when she joined the Mathematics Engineering Science Achievement Engineering Program (MEP) staff, that all changed.

“My life as an Aztec started in 1986 when I was a 17-year-old freshman,” says the Alumni Association lifetime member. “For 18 years now, I’ve worked with MEP, with the last 11 years as the director.”
