BioBlitz to Balboa Park

On May 2 and 3, 2008, the largest urban park in America will become a venue
for a unique type of public discovery: the first ever BioBlitz Balboa Park.

The public will interact with working scientists, volunteers, and educators
to explore Balboa Park’s biodiversity as a community. The heart of BioBlitz
is a “rapid biodiversity assessment” that answers two questions: “How many
species can be found in Balboa Park in 24 hours?” and “What are those
species?”

The San Diego Natural History Museum is providing families the opportunity
to join Museum scientists on an expedition! In the evening, go
insect-collecting and owl-spotting on the Prado, and enjoy arts and craft activities. After a
continental breakfast, head out for an early-morning hike to look for the
birds that live in the Balboa Park area.
