Habitat for Humanity Volunteers

Swinerton Builders has teamed up with Habitat for Humanity to present us with our first volunteering opportunity of the 2011-2012 school year! I hope all of you are enjoying your summer activities, but we thought we would break up the monotony and go help a few families who would be homeless otherwise. We are going to be helping support Swinerton and all of their subcontractors by assisting with parking, passing out food, registration, hospitality, and recycling (nice way of saying, picking up trash and debris). We would love to get off to a great start in the community service department, but need your help. Not to mention the awesome networking opportunity with a construction powerhouse. Please take a minute to read the information below, SIGN UP, and send a confirmation e-mail to our new address at: with your name, telephone number, and shift that you would be able to work so we can set up car pool time and locations for all our awesome volunteers. I will be working the Friday afternoon shift and hope all of you can make time in your schedule to help out some families in need. Thanks so much.
All the best,

Luis Reyes

On Monday, August 1st – Friday, August 5th, San Diego Habitat for Humanity (SDHFH) and Swinerton Builders will partner to build two homes from foundation to completion in just five days! Professional builders will be doing the actual construction but we need 60 volunteers per day (30 per shift) to help with:

1. Parking (parking volunteers will arrive at 5:30 am)
2. Registration & Hospitality
3. Food/Beverage Set-up & Distribution
4. Recycling
5. Medical Station (experienced personnel only)

There will be two volunteer shifts— the 1st shift is from 6 am – noon and the 2nd shift is from noon – 6 pm. You do not need to commit to volunteering for more than one shift or day, but we ask that you complete the shift(s) for which you have signed up.

Please sign up on Volunteer Up like you would for any other SDHFH volunteer opportunity. If you’ve never volunteered with SDHFH before and don’t have a volunteer profile, please create one, and then email with your requested day/shift. If you would like to sign up a group, email Volunteer Coordinator Melanie at volunteerservices@sdhfh.orgwith the number of people in your group and your preferred day/shift.

The Builders Blitz will be at Libby Lake Village in Oceanside. The address is 4700 North River Road.

• Can I volunteer if I haven’t yet attended an orientation?
o Yes, this project is exempt from orientation. If you haven’t yet attended an orientation, please email me your first and last name and the date/shift of your choice.

• Can I bring my friends?
o Yes, as long as they complete a volunteer profile and sign in on Volunteer Up. We need to account for every volunteer so registration is important.

• Where should I park?
o Park in the auto auction lot directly across the street from Libby Lake on everyday EXCEPT Wednesday. On Wednesday park in the lot that is directly to the west of the auto auction lot.

• What is the dress code?
o Dress in cool, light clothing and wear closed-toed shoes. Bring your own sunscreen!

• Will food be provided?
o Yes, SDHFH will provide food and beverages to all volunteers (hint: last year they served really great BBQ!)

• Will I get a cool T-shirt?
o Of course!
