Legislative mandates, state and federal policy, and climate debate aims to improve our aging electricity infrastructure. A public/private partnership has been established to achieve a modern grid, a “smarter grid”. By the proper application of new technology and incorporating the consumer into the asset investment strategy, the electric industry can develop a systematic implementation plan that not only modernizes the grid, but accommodates a carbon emission strategy needed in this century. This interactive discussion will focus on a range of topics from the macro-economic imperative needed for a digitally-based and environmentally clean society to gaps that exist in both energy policy and technological advances.
