Be a STEM Speaker for a 3rd Grade Trip to La Jolla Tide Pools!

Ocean Discovery STEM Speaker Opportunity 2013 flyer

Ocean Discovery Institute generates the spark that makes young people want to learn and empowers them to transform their lives through science. We use science exploration to engage youth from urban and diverse backgrounds in education, scientific research, and environmental stewardship.
Be a STEM Speaker for a 3rd Grade Trip to La Jolla Tide Pools!
As a professional in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) field you can help create the scientists of tomorrow! We are looking for a handful of dedicated individuals from ecology, marine science, and biology fields to expose our students to opportunities in the STEM fields and share your knowledge about and joy for tide pool animals and the ocean. The time you commit to this program can open doors for underrepresented students to pursue opportunities they never knew existed before!
Commitment
One Ocean Discovery Institute Field Trip (with the potential to do more than one)
Each year Ocean Discovery Institute hosts over 800 3rd grade students at the tide pools in La Jolla. Guest speakers talk with students for 2-3 minutes about their path to career and then explore the tide pools with the students on a more personal level in small groups.
