Funded Masters to PhD programs at CSULA in STEM

I would like to bring to your attention outstanding opportunities for your talented LSAMP, CAMP or AMP underrepresented minority graduating seniors [African Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, Pacific Islanders (native Hawaiians, Guamanians, Samoans) Filipinos] who intend to earn a masters degree prior to pursuing the PhD. The California State University, Los Angeles MORE (Minority Opportunities in Research) Programs offers two mechanisms to support motivated students to pursue a full-time two-year research intensive MS in preparation to pursuing the PhD.

* The NIH RISE MS-to-PhD ($17,000 in the first year, rising to $19,000 in the second)

* The exceptionally generous NSF LSAMP Bridge to the Doctorate ($30,000 per year stipend for two years) is designed for students who were undergraduate participants in an NSF LSAMP, CAMP or AMP program.

The attachments describe these programs and provide an application. Note that there is one common application for RISE MS-to-PhD and for LSAMP-BD. Applicants will be considered for both programs. We strongly encourage applications from your students. As the LSAMP, CAMP or AMP program director on your campus, you can have a powerful influence on the career outcomes of your students. Please forward this email and attachments to your interested students.

Please have interested students complete their applications not later than March 1, 2010. By that deadline they must have also applied to the University and to the department where they will pursue the MS. That is a very short deadline, but one which Cal State LA is obliged to enforce.
