Student Versus Industry Science Bowl Challenge

Student Versus Industry Science Bowl Challenge will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 from 6-8pm in the Lincoln High Library.  This event is to help prepare the Lincoln High student teams for its regional competition sponsored by the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE).

This year, Joe Wiseman, the Vice Principal at Lincoln High’s Center for Science and Engineering, has invited SDSU college students (undergrad and graduate levels) and professors to form a 4-player team and compete in this challenge.  The competition format is a fast-paced question-and-answer quiz game similar to Jeopardy.  It is important to keep in mind the following question categories when forming teams: astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, general science, mathematics, and physics.  In addition, up to 20% of all questions asked will be about African-American scientists, engineers, inventors and their work.

Access to sample questions can be found at: http://www.scied.science.doe.gov/nsb/hs/samplqs.htmPlease contact SDSU MESA Schools Program Academic Coordinator, Michelle Jordan @ mjordan@projects.sdsu.edu if you would like to participate or if you have any questions by December 21, 2010. There can only be 1 student team, and those students who are on the team and compete on the day of the event will receive MEP/MSP participation credit.
