HENAAC Scholars Program

At Great Minds in STEM, we believe that the key to cultivating tomorrows’ technology leaders is to recognize and support the leadership of today’s outstanding science, technology, engineering and math students. With that in mind, we are asking that you promote a great opportunity offered by Great Minds in STEM – the HENAAC Scholars Program.

The goals of our scholarship program are: to ensure and increase college retention of students with a 3.0 grade point average or higher; guarantee college graduation with an undergraduate technical degree in four-five years; and, to contribute to Hispanic communities by producing role models for future generations, all the while securing the country’s place as the finest technological leader in the world.

In 2011 for the second consecutive year, Great Minds in STEM awarded educational grants to over 100 STEM students. Since our inception, the HENAAC Scholars Program has experienced tremendous growth awarding over $1.5 million dollars in educational grants to over 850 STEM students. These awards are made possible through the continued generous support of our outstanding scholarship partners including the Northrop Grumman Corporation, Lockheed Martin, NASA, Shaw Industries Group, Cummins, NAVSEA, Verizon, Rockwell Collins and The Dow Chemical Company. Great Minds in STEM also awards monetary grants through our HENAAC Conference Travel Grants Program, the HENAAC College Bowl and our Technical Papers and Poster Competition. For more information on these programs, please visit our website at: www.greatmindsinstem.org.

To qualify for a scholarship, applicants must be full time college STEM students active in the Hispanic community with an overall grade point average of at least a 3.0. Scholarships are presented at the annual HENAAC Conference during our Student Leadership Dinner. In addition to their scholarship, recipients will receive financial support to travel and attend the Conference where they will meet their scholarship sponsor and be able to participate in a number of rewarding networking activities. This year’s Conference will take place on October 11-13, 2012 in Lake Buena Vista, Florida at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. Additional HENAAC Conference information can be found on our website.

I would like to ask that you encourage any qualifying students to take advantage of this outstanding opportunity. For your convenience, I am attaching a copy of the scholarship application which can also be duplicated or downloaded from our website. The postmark deadline to apply for the scholarship is April 30, 2012. If additional information is needed, I can be reached at (323) 262-0997, extension 300 or kbbarrera@greatmindsinstem.org.
