Job Description

Our Principal Database Engineer will be focused on multiple data sources within our Auto Physical Damage Division.  You will serve in a lead role in consolidating the data and then design a new warehouse using Microsoft. You will also serve as a lead on a small team in delivering Business Intelligence as well as provide your expertise in redesigning /reengineering warehouse.

 

Summary:

  • As a Principal Database Engineer you will act as a Senior Data warehouse Architect and hands-on development lead, mainly responsible for:
  • Leading and managing ateam of offshore team members.
  • Strategically design andimplement data warehouses, data marts, and data stores, while ensuring high levels of data availability.
  • Enhance, develop, and promote standards and good practices around data, reporting, and BI
  • Define policies,procedures, and governance for the data warehouse that is aligned with theoverall IT strategy.
  • Perform role of counselor and coach; provide mentoring, input and guidance to the team.
  • To conceptualize, designand assist in the implementation of new and existing DW and BI systems,middleware and production architectures
  • Identify and promote best practices and patterns for data modeling, and provide oversight for allactivities related to data cleansing, data quality and data consolidation using standard data modeling methodologies and processes
  • Provide technical recommendations for optimized data access and retention for the data warehouse

Desired Skills & Experience

Qualifications (knowledge, skills, abilities):

  • 8+ years’ experience using SQL Server 2005/2008. Highly desirable – Microsoft Certified Technology Specialists (MCTS) on SQL Server 2005/2008 certification.
  • Must possess a strong understanding of Microsoft SQL Reporting Services, SQL Server Analytic Services, SQL Server Integration Services, MDX and performance point server. Must know how to create, deploy and manage reports
  • 5+ year’s hands-on experience in Business Intelligence and Decision Support systems.
  • 6+ years’ expertise in building data warehouse using top-down or bottom-up approach using snow-flake or star schemas as well as extensive knowledge of OLTP/OLAP technologies.
  • Experience in defining and analyzing SQL Server replication strategies
  • Expertise in stored procedure programming, data modeling, replication, performance monitoring and optimization.
  • Expert-level knowledge of SQL and ETL tools like Informatica and Ab-Initio is nice to have
  • Experience in Insurance Services is a plus.

  • Be willing to work off hours and weekends, and make available for deployments or emergency during non-business hours.

Experience:Typically requires a minimum of 9+ years of related experience. At this level, post-graduate coursework may be expected.

 

 

Education:  4-year degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or related technical discipline. Certification in Oracle and MS-SQL Server is a big plus

 

 

Written Abilities:  Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently.
