Job Description
 

SUMMARY

Design a wide range of products with minimal supervision.  Resolve product-related problems on existing designs.  Mentor and coach junior engineers.  Help Pulse maintain superiority in technology, price, quality and time to market within the constraints of available resources.

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

EDUCATION:          The minimum education for all positions is a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering

required, with a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:        4-7 years overall work experience.  5+ years in magnetic component design or SMPS

experience. 

 

KNOWLEDGE:        All positions require an understanding of switching power supplies technology.  Ability to understand the technology of a switched mode power supply, drafting principles, knowledge of magnetic theory and the ability to design magnetic components. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, general knowledge of magnetic component design, working knowledge of power supply design or functionality, general knowledge of ISO standards.

 

SKILLS:                    Manager position must also possess strong leadership and teambuilding skills.

 

 

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

 

INTERNAL:             Internal relationships to include daily communication with peers, lab operators,

engineers, and other departments during the product design phase. Weekly communication with Documentation  Control to discuss drawings, ECNs, etc.  Frequent contact with the production plants regarding new and existing design issues as required.

 

EXTERNAL:             External relationships to include contact with suppliers to discuss materials, designs,

schedules and cost.

CHALLENGES

These positions are challenged to develop electrical and package design to meet customers’ demands of increased performance and ever-decreasing size.  Will implement innovative solutions in a timely manner within company guidelines.  Must respond to rapidly changing customer needs and increasing competitive pressures.  Must manage a large number of designs simultaneously while keeping abreast of the latest materials, suppliers, and technology.  Errors in the electrical design of a product may result in field failures or customer line shutdown.

 

 

 

SPECIFIC POSITION DUTIES

 

  • Perform design calculations and platform/material selection
  • Conduct lab evaluations of design
  • Prepare drafting designs and related documentation
  • Attend program, staff, design review, company, ISO, and Group meetings and be an active part of such meetings
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers
  • Provide customer and plant support
  • Effectively manage a staff of Design Engineers by mentoring their development in their roles and overall career development.  This role includes administrative tasks such as performance appraisals, administering salary increases, and effectively handling disciplinary measures, if necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must have in-depth and practical knowledge of all the applicable Safety Agency requirements
  • Extensive hands-on design experience of off-line AC/DC and AC/AC Linear and Switch Mode Magnetic components.
