2008 Professional Women in Technology Forum: Life Lessons and Leadership

Join two of the most highly respected women leaders in technology in San Diego for an evening of networking and discussion. Dr. Sally Ride, first American women in space, and Qualcomm Executive Vice President, Peggy Johnson, will share their life lessons and how to transform them into leadership skills and strategies.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS

Dr. Sally Ride, First American Woman in Space

Sally K. Ride, Ph.D., a former NASA Astronaut and the first American woman in space, is the President and CEO of Sally Ride Science, and a Professor (Emeritus) at the University of California, San Diego. Sally Ride Science is an innovative company dedicated to supporting girls’ and boys’ interests in math, science and technology, through their programs and publications.

Dr. Ride grew up in Los Angeles, California. She attended Stanford University where she earned her B.S. in Physics and B.A in English in 1973, and her M.S. and Ph.D. in Physics in 1975 and 1978, respectively. Shortly thereafter, she was selected for NASA’s astronaut corps. Her first space flight was aboard the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1983; her second was also aboard Challenger, in 1984. During those flights, she deployed communications satellites, operated the robot arm, and conducted experiments in materials, pharmaceuticals, and Earth remote-sensing.

Peggy Johnson, QUALCOMM, Executive Vice President of Americas & India

Peggy Johnson serves as executive vice president of the Americas and India. Johnson is responsible for global development including working with partners to drive the adoption of 3G wireless broadband in the Americas and India. Johnson also serves as a member of Qualcomm’s executive committee. Johnson previously served as president of Qualcomm Internet Services (QIS) and MediaFLO Technologies. Johnson was integral in establishing the foundation for QIS and leading the development of next-generation wireless technology. Under Johnson’s leadership, QIS was successful at developing the BREW® solution, a family of offerings that includes uiOne, deliveryOne, QPoint and BREW Signature Solutions as well as the QChat® push-to-talk solution.

DIRECTIONS

From Downtown San Diego Area Take I-5 North until you reach the Sorrento Valley Rd. exit, turn left at the bottom of the off-ramp. Take the next right (across the railroad tracks) on Sorrento Valley Blvd. Take the next right, on Sorrento Valley Road. Follow Sorrento Valley Road (under I-805, where it becomes Mira Mesa Blvd/Vista Sorrento Pkwy) to Lusk Blvd. Turn left onto Lusk Blvd. Follow Lusk Blvd up the hill, Qualcomm is located on the right at 6455 Lusk Blvd.

From Los Angeles/Orange County Take I-5 South to 805 South. Take the Mira Mesa/Sorrento Valley Rd. exit, and turn left at the bottom of the off-ramp on to Sorrento Valley Road. Turn left on Lusk Blvd. Follow Lusk Blvd up the hill, Qualcomm is located on the right at 6455 Lusk Blvd.

*Note: There are several Qualcomm buildings in the area. Please be sure to check the address. Qualcomm, Building Q, at 6455 Lusk Blvd., is a very colorful building.

Parking

There is plenty of parking in front of the building and on the sides. Enter through the main front doors, the event will be held in the auditorium on the first floor.
