Public Service Leaders Scholarship Program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Public Service Leaders Scholarship Program provides undergraduate and graduate level students with a challenging internship opportunity combined with a scholarship. The program is designed to promote public service and create access to higher education. Upon successful completion of program and degree requirements, participants become permanent employees of USDA.

WHITAKER UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

Grant funding for projects, internships and coursework in biomedical engineering (or bioengineering) overseas.
• Award: amounts range from $7,500 for a semester program to $10,000 for an academic year program.
• Projects: High-quality BME-relevant proposals will be funded, which can include: coursework, research and internships.
• Eligibility: US citizens and residents in their sophomore, junior or senior year with a BME or a closely related major.
• Program must be approved by home institution.

Summer Research Program list

The SDSU MBRS IMSD Program collects and saves a list of various summer research programs. The purpose is to help students locate extra mural research opportunities, so that students gain additional research training in their area of interest.

The majority of the programs are due around the same time every year.

Students should follow up directly with any program contacts and websites to retrieve 2012 applications and deadlines.

STUDENT TRAINEE: Soil Conservation Technician

With the mission of “Helping People Help the Land,” the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) provides products and services that enable people to be good stewards of the Nation’s soil, water, and related natural resources on non-Federal lands. With our help, people are better able to conserve, maintain, or improve their natural resources. As a result of our technical and financial assistance, land managers and communities take a comprehensive approach to the use and protection of natural resources in rural, suburban, urban, and developing areas. We at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s NRCS need people who want to apply their education and experience to making sure that all of us enjoy the benefits of productive soil, clean water, clean air, and abundant wildlife that come from a healthy environment. You can alternate periods of work and study, or work on a part-time schedule while attending school. You’ll work for, and learn from, NRCS professionals in your field of study. You’ll learn by doing and earn while you learn.

The Historic Preservation Internship Training Program trains our future historic preservation professionals. The internship program offers undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to gain practical experience in cultural resource management programs in the National Park Service headquarters, field offices, and parks, and in other federal agencies.

California Senate Fellowship Program

The Senate Fellowship program is administered through Sacramento State and more information is available at www.csus.edu/calst/senate. Related programs offer fellowships in the State Assembly, the Executive Branch, and the Judiciary. If anyone would like to contact me to discuss the Senate program and my experience with it, please do! Also, please consider passing this along to former students who now have four-year degrees and might benefit from a year’s experience at the State Capitol.
