Through its Fellowship Programs, the Ford Foundation seeks to increase the diversity of the nation’s college and university faculties by increasing their ethnic and racial diversity, to maximize the educational benefits of diversity, and to increase the number of professors who can and will use diversity as a resource for enriching the education of all students.

MESA Research Academy, funded by the California Space Grant Consortium

Twenty MESA students (10 from City College and Southwestern College, each) attended a 1-week Research Academy at San Diego State University (SDSU) in July 2012. The Academy was designed as a “trainer the trainer academy for understanding ‘what is research?'” The Academy was designed and implemented by 3 SDSU graduate research students. As one of the United States’ top fellowship providers, the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation offers programs that cultivate talent and drive change in the nation’s high-need fields. We are excited to announce the opening of the 2013 Thomas R. Pickering Foreign Affairs & Graduate Foreign Affairs Fellowships competition! We seek highly motivated and academically excellent college juniors and graduating seniors or college graduates who have an interest in pursuing a Foreign Service career in the U.S. Department of State.

Funded by the U.S. Department of State, the programs honor Career Ambassador Thomas R. Pickering, one of the country’s most respected Foreign Service Officers. The goal of the programs is to attract outstanding students from all ethnic and social backgrounds who are dedicated to representing America’s interests abroad. Women, members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service, and students with financial need are encouraged to apply to one of the two Programs

REU in Renewable Energy at Colorado School of Mines

The Renewable Energy Materials Research Science and Engineering Center (REMRSEC) REU program invites exceptional undergraduate math, science, and engineering students to participate in a ten-week summer research program addressing fundamental materials issues related to the science and technology of renewable energy. These highly interdisciplinary studies focus on multiple areas that are open to all materials science, engineering, physics, chemistry, mathematics, chemical engineering, and computer science majors.

Summer 2013 research programs at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas

For the 20th consecutive year, UT Southwestern Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences is sponsoring the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) Program. The goal of SURF is to give students an intensive, 10-week, research experience in a world class research environment. Students immerse themselves in the laboratory and work on individual research projects with UT Southwestern Graduate School faculty. Most areas of modern cancer biology, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, neuroscience, and pharmacology are represented. In addition to research, SURF provides seminars, GRE prep, social events and an end-of-program poster session. We have increased the number of fellowships for SURF to 85.
