Student Versus Industry Science Bowl Challenge will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 from 6-8pm in the Lincoln High Library. This event is to help prepare the Lincoln High student teams for its regional competition sponsored by the National Organization for the Professional Advancement of Black Chemists and Chemical Engineers (NOBCChE).

Imperial Valley MESA students receive visit and help from San Diego Gas & Electric engineers

All it takes to build a windmill is construction paper, rubber bands and batteries.

At least that’s what 40 Imperial Valley students in the Math Engineering Science and Achievement program in three middle schools and two high schools attempted to do at the San Diego Gas & Electric Windmill presentation at the SDG&E Resource Center on Wednesday in El Centro.

Five SDG&E engineers were on hand to give students an outlook on their career choice.

Volunteer Tutors Needed for Highly Motivated Disadvantaged Elementary, Middle and High School Students

BLCI is a community-based organization located in Barrio Logan, a low-income Latino community in San Diego where only 38% of residents have a high school diploma and less than 3% have a bachelor degree or higher. One hundred percent (100%) of the students BLCI serves will be of the first generation in their families to attend college, and most will be the first in their families to graduate from high school. Our programs serve 160 elementary, middle, high school, and college-enrolled students and 100 of their parents with a dynamic range of academic support services and college prep curriculum BLCI has established the following goals to focus and direct its activities:

Sign up for the 2010 Walk on Water Competition

The 2010 Walk on Water competition will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Southwestern Community College swimming pool, from 9:00 – 1:00 PM. Invitees include teams from Southwestern College, San Diego State University, San Diego Mesa College, and various high schools within the San Diego and Imperial Valley MESA Schools Programs.
Teams will be awarded prizes in the following categories:
Fastest shoes
Most Creative shoes
Best use of Recycled Material Usage

Peer Led Resume Critique & Mock Interview

Prepare for Internships and Interviews NOW!

On September 10 and September 17, 2010 from 1-3 pm, we will briefly go over the NSF MESA Summer Team Internship Program, discuss how to organize your resume and cover letter, and do peer led resume critiques and mock interviews at Southwestern College and City College, respectively. 17th Annual Olympics & Robotics Competition

Teams consisting of MESA students at San Diego State University (SDSU), San Diego City College (SDCC), Southwestern Community College (SWC), Morse High School, Imperial Valley High School, and William Moreno Jr. High School competed against each other in exams that spanned Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, and some Engineering material.

Each campus was also allowed up to 3 teams who would program a LEGO MindStorm NXT robotics kit to compete in 2 missions. The first mission required speed and intelligence to maneuver from a home area through a slalom course. The second mission was a combination control and head-to-head event where robots raced to collect the most LEGO pieces and return them back to their home base under a constrained area and time limit.

SPAWAR Teaching Opportunity

If you are interested in teaching, we have an opportunity for you!. Work with SPAWAR in developing projects and teaching kids K-12 science and engineering concepts.

This is a summer internship with flexible hours.

Students in MESA/NSF/SPSD/MEP/MSP are eligible for an NSF Stipend of $1,250 for 100 hours of work. All other interested students may volunteer without pay to do this.
