Summer Research – Earthquake Engineering REU

The George E. Brown Jr., Network for Earthquake Engineering Simulation (NEES) is inviting applicants for its 2010 summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU). NEES is a network of experimental sites across the country designed to enhance engineers’ and scientists’ potential for discovery and collaboration. The network includes state-of-the-art equipment to support physical simulations of earthquakes and tsunamis.

UC EDGE: Graduate Recruitment Day

Now in its eighth year, UC Edge: Graduate Recruitment Day 2010 is an all-day event for underrepresented undergraduates who are sophomores and juniors engaged in a faculty-mentored research program, as well as master’s students. Faculty, graduate students and staff from all ten University of California campuses come to UCLA to meet with interested students of all disciplines about graduate opportunities at the University of California.

EYH Conference

Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) provides hands-on/minds-on exploration in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics for 6th – 10th grade girls. Our mission is to encourage young women to pursue careers in these fields by offering interactive workshops from Architecture to Zoology. Girls from all over San Diego County will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge in various areas, talk with others who share similar interests, and have women college students (you!) studying science and technology as mentors for an entire day. This year’s theme is “Sustain your Future”. Please Note: All mentors are required to attend one of three training sessions prior to the Conference which will be held Sat. 2/27 (10-11am), Mon. 3/1 (7-8pm) and Thurs. 3/4 (7-8pm) on the University of San Diego campus. Application deadline is Wednesday, March 3, 2010 so sign up today!

Since its inception nine years ago, the HENAAC Scholars Program has experienced tremendous growth and has awarded over a million and a half dollars in educational grants to over 1,000 deserving recipients. These awards were made possible through the generous support of our outstanding scholarship partners including 2009 sponsors Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, NASA, Rockwell Collins, Southern California Edison, the Boeing Company, Raytheon, bp, SAIC, Cummins and Verizon.

The goal of our program is to ensure college retention with a 3.0 grade point average or higher; to guarantee college graduation with an undergraduate technical degree in four-five years; and, to contribute to Hispanic communities by producing role models for future generations and securing the country’s place as the finest technological leader in the world.

NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowships

This call for graduate fellowship proposals, entitled NASA Earth and Space Science Fellowship Program — 2010/2011 Academic Year, solicits applications from accredited U.S. universities on behalf of individuals pursuing master’s or doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees in Earth and space sciences, or related disciplines. The purpose of NESSF is to ensure continued training of a highly qualified workforce in disciplines needed to achieve NASA’s scientific goals. Awards resulting from the competitive selection will be training grants to the respective universities, with the advisor serving as the principal investigator. The financial support for the NESSF program comes from the Science Mission Directorate’s four science divisions: Earth Science, Heliophysics, Planetary Science and Astrophysics.
