Public Service Leaders Scholarship Program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Public Service Leaders Scholarship Program provides undergraduate and graduate level students with a challenging internship opportunity combined with a scholarship. The program is designed to promote public service and create access to higher education. Upon successful completion of program and degree requirements, participants become permanent employees of USDA.

WHITAKER UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

Grant funding for projects, internships and coursework in biomedical engineering (or bioengineering) overseas.
• Award: amounts range from $7,500 for a semester program to $10,000 for an academic year program.
• Projects: High-quality BME-relevant proposals will be funded, which can include: coursework, research and internships.
• Eligibility: US citizens and residents in their sophomore, junior or senior year with a BME or a closely related major.
• Program must be approved by home institution.

Summer Research Program list

The SDSU MBRS IMSD Program collects and saves a list of various summer research programs. The purpose is to help students locate extra mural research opportunities, so that students gain additional research training in their area of interest.

The majority of the programs are due around the same time every year.

Students should follow up directly with any program contacts and websites to retrieve 2012 applications and deadlines.

Electrocorticographic Brain Computer Interfaces: Building Cortical Control Columns

Brain computer interface (BCI) technology has classically focused on two signal acquisition modalities for
control: multi, single-unit activity (MSU) and electroencephalography (EEG). While MSU activity
provides a high fidelity, multi-dimensional signal for BCI control, obtaining long-term stability of single unit recordings has proven difficult at best due to glial encapsulation issues.
