2010 Walk on Water Competition

The 2010 Walk on Water competition was held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Southwestern Community College swimming pool, from 10:00 – 1:00 PM.

There were over 87 attendees, with teams from San Diego City College, Southwestern College, San Diego State University, La Jolla High School, Central Union High School, San Pasqual High School, and Mark Twain High School, within the San Diego MESA Schools Program.

Most campuses respective MESA programs’ refunded costs to build the buoyancy shoes that teams created to ‘walk on water’ up to $100.

Teams of MESA & SPSD students designed “buoyancy shoes”, and student “shoe pilots” race across the length of the pool. The competition allows students to gain experience at applying applying the engineering design process; solving open-ended problems.

The 2010 Walk on Water competition will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at the Southwestern Community College swimming pool, from 9:00 – 1:00 PM. Invitees include teams from Southwestern College, San Diego State University, San Diego Mesa College, and various high schools within the San Diego and Imperial Valley MESA Schools Programs.
Teams will be awarded prizes in the following categories:
Fastest shoes
Most Creative shoes
Best use of Recycled Material Usage

2009 Walk On Water Competition

The 2009 Walk on Water competition was held on Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the Southwestern Community College swimming pool, from 10:00 – 2:00 PM.

There were 75 total attendees, with 14 total teams from La Jolla high school, San Diego City College, Southwestern Community College, San Diego State University, and high schools within the San Diego MESA Schools Program.

Teams of MESA students designed “buoyancy shoes”, and student “shoe pilots” race across the length of the pool. The competition allows students to gain experience at applying applying the engineering design process; solving open-ended problems. 2008 Walk on Water Competition

The 2008 Walk on Water competition was held on Saturday, October 18, 2008at the Southwestern Community College swimming pool, from 9:00 – 1:00 PM. The competition had over 57 attendees, with teams from Southwestern College, San Diego State University, San Diego City College, and local high schools.

Teams of MESA students designed “buoyancy shoes”, and student “shoe pilots” race across the length of the pool. The competition allows students to gain experience at applying applying the engineering design process; solving open-ended problems.

Some of the campuses respective MESA programs’ refunded costs to build the buoyancy shoes that teams created to ‘walk on water’, up to $100. Southwestern College student organizations such as AMSA (American Medical Student Association), the Culinary Grilling Club (CGC), and SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) sold refreshments as part of their fundraising efforts.
