The Opportunities in Engineering Conference

The College of Engineering at the University of Wisconsin Madison is hosting a three-day graduate recruitment event known as “The Opportunities in Engineering Conference,” scheduled for November 4 through November 6, 2010. The conference gives selected students an opportunity to hear faculty research presentations, tour laboratories, meet with current graduate students and individually with faculty in the students area of interest, and tour the city of Madison as well as the UW campus. All expenses including travel, housing, and food are paid in full by the College of Engineering (with the exception of food for Saturday and Sunday).

FAA Design Competition

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is continuing to offer a Design Competition for Uni-versities for the 2010-2011 academic year and has added new design categories.
The Competition challenges individual students or teams of students (undergraduates and graduates) from U.S. colleges and universities, working under the mentorship of a faculty advi-sor, to address challenges in four broad areas: Airport Operations and Maintenance, Runway Safety/Runway Incursions, Environmental Interactions of Airports and Airport Management and Planning. Students must have a faculty advisor. Cash prizes are given to first, second and third place winners in each category. The first place winners will present their design solutions at a national aviation event in the summer of 2011.

VU-EDGE Program Graduate Recruitment

The VU-EDGE Program is collaborating with GEM (The National Consortium for Graduate Degrees for Minorities in Engineering and Science, Inc.) to host a graduate recruitment event at Vanderbilt University from Thursday, October 28, 2010 through Saturday, October 30, 2010. The VU- EDGE Program will fund travel and lodging for the fifty (50) students who will be invited to attend this event. Participation in this event is by invitation only.

HACU’s 24th Annual Conference

HACU in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is offering scholarships to local San Diego area college students to attend HACU’s 24th Annual Conference in San Diego, CA (September 18-20, 2010). This setting will provide a unique national and regional forum for awareness, networking, and information sessions on higher education.

SDSU Career Services STEM Overview

STEM refers to the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
STEM initiatives started as a way to promote education within middle and high schools in these related areas so that students would be prepared to study STEM fields in college and pursue STEM-related careers.

UC Santa Barbara College of Engineering Graduate School Preview Day

This event is supported by the National Science Foundation/Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) and is designed to increase the number of underrepresented minorities our in Ph.D. programs in engineering and computer science. The Graduate School Preview Day will provide scholars with a broader understanding of the opportunities available through a graduate education in engineering at UC Santa Barbara; the agenda will include application and funding workshops, facilities tours, graduate student panels and significant interaction with UC Santa Barbara faculty and researchers from different engineering research areas.
