Southern California Undergraduate Math Day

Thank you for your interest in the Southern California Undergraduate Math Day, brought to you by UCSD’s AWM Chapter Undergraduate Math Conference. Here are the basics:

Who: Southern California Math Majors or Prospective Math Majors

What: A day to learn about what math majors do, hear talks from graduate students about what math research is all about, present your research if you’ve done any and hear talks from other undergraduates and invited speakers.

Where: University of California, San Diego – Applied Physics and Mathematics Building Room 7421

The one-week workshop introduces energy efficient electronics science to undergraduates who are motivated by science and engineering. We have research programs in nanoelectronics, nanomechanics, nanophotonics and nanomagnetics. Summer workshop participants have the opportunity to learn more about E3S research.

U.S. Cyber Challenge at San Jose State this summer

The SJSU camp will be held from August 5 – 10, 2012. At the summer camp, students will engage in web-delivered training sessions and exercises on topics ranging from network intrusion detection to forensics. Classes will be taught by leading industry professionals, faculty members from various universities, security practitioners across industries and the U.S. government. An ethics panel, hosted by FBI representatives, and a career and internship fair with major technology companies and government agencies will be included. The camp will culminate with a “capture the flag” competition in which campers use their newly acquired knowledge to battle live attacks from hackers.
