IEEE Power and Energy Society 2012 Conference (Need Volunteers)

This summer San Diego will be the host city for the IEEE Power and Energy Society 2012 General Meeting and Conference. Attendance is expected to be close to 3,000 attendees, and San Diego Gas & Electric is proud to be a platinum sponsor, and the host utility.

We need volunteers in many areas – everything from helping out at registrations desks, assisting in our social activities, and acting as human arrows to direct convention goers to their destination.

Optoelectronics for Neural Recording and Stimulation

Recently the invention of optogenetics have allowed for high-speed control of genetically defined neural circuit elements in freely moving mammals. However, with the ability to control came the demand to monitor neural activity during optogenetic experiments. To address the need for simultaneous optical stimulation and electrophysiological recording we have recently demonstrated a low-cost, miniature device “Optetrode”.

Student Paper Competition

The IEEE Engineering in Medicine & Biology Society sponsors a paper competition for EMBS Student Members (Graduates and Undergraduates). Students should submit their entry to the Conference as a Contributed Paper by 29th March 2012. Each student’s Faculty Advisor will be required to endorse their student’s submission by submitting a Nomination Form between 27th March and 25th May, 2012. Failure to submit the accompanying Nomination Form within the submission window will invalidate the respective student paper submission for the student paper competition.
