Life Technologies openings

At Life Technologies, we celebrate diversity and inclusion as just a natural way of working together. Diversity and inclusion are woven deeply into our company culture. A vibrant, powerful mix of talent, backgrounds and different ideas — because we know we are stronger together.
We demonstrate our commitment to fostering a culture of diversity and inclusion throughout our people practices, outreach and support of our people. For example, in 2011 we trained 400 leaders in the art of managing inclusion. Our leaders are focused on creating inclusive environments where all are welcomed, individual points of view are heard and contributions valued.
Our commitment doesn’t stop there. We also sponsor partnerships and encourage our people to get involved with organizations like National Society of Black Engineers, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Women in Technology International and GettingHired. We promote internal networks like IWIN, which is sponsored by women at Life Technologies, to encourage people to excel through personal and professional development opportunities.

CIA Student Opportunities

Summer is an exciting, though busy, time for us. Students have begun arriving for their summer internships—some for the first time and some for a return tour. After focusing on identifying and on boarding the best and brightest students over the last year, the fruit of our collective labor is visible throughout the Agency. Now our focus shifts to ensuring that our students have meaningful work experiences, to attending to their quality of life activities, and to identifying students for next summer. By the way, 70 to 80% of our students convert to full-time staff when they graduate. So, in addition to gaining some very valuable work experience, a student opportunity at CIA may very well lead to a career.

That being said, NOW is the time for your students to apply for scholarships and summer 2013 internships. Students who wish to work for a time period other than summer should apply at least 12 months before their desired start date. This allows ample time for selected applicants to complete our rigorous application process (medical testing, security processing, and background investigation).

Optoelectronics for Neural Recording and Stimulation

Recently the invention of optogenetics have allowed for high-speed control of genetically defined neural circuit elements in freely moving mammals. However, with the ability to control came the demand to monitor neural activity during optogenetic experiments. To address the need for simultaneous optical stimulation and electrophysiological recording we have recently demonstrated a low-cost, miniature device “Optetrode”.
