The National Science Foundation (NSF) grant provided stipends for 36 student interns this summer at various projects in science and engineering firms in, but not limited to, San Diego and were also placed on teams of 2-4 students.

Teams from San Diego State University, San Diego City College, and Southwestern Community College compete against each other in exams that include Calculus, Physics, Chemistry, and some Engineering material. The annual Leadership Summit took place at the Indian Hills Camp in Jamul on the weekend of February 15, 2008. Students from San Diego City College, San Diego State University, Southwestern College, and Ventura College participated in various competitions that promoted the use of their newfound leadership skills and other strengths.
The SDSU Aztec Center - Casa Real housed the announcement of the multi-million dollar grant from the National Science Foundation that develops future STEM workforce, with the potential of an upcoming paid summer team internship.
