Comments closedThe Green Academy is a model ‘train-the-trainer’ academy for understanding “what is energy efficiency and sustainability.” The Green Academy will provide hands-on training in energy efficiency and sustainability to 30 high school, community college, and university students in the MESA pipeline (High schools with MESA Schools Programs in San Diego and Imperial Valley, and MESA programs at San Diego City College, Southwestern College, and San Diego State University).
In addition to receiving hands on training and a training packet, the trainees will be exposed to energy efficiency and to green careers at San Diego Gas & Electric.
The Green Academy is developed, organized, and implemented by 2 MESA staff, in collaboration with the San Diego State University PowerSave Green Campus.
The goal of the Green Academy is to prepare the trainees to deliver presentations on energy efficiency and sustainability to their peers at their respective institutions. Through these school presentations, the Green Academy outreach is expected to impact over 1,000 students from kindergarten through the college level.

These mentors will commit 75 hours through Spring 2013, for which they will receive a stipend of $825. This is a great opportunity for these students to serve as peer mentors for high school and middle school students in the MESA Schools Programs (MSP) in San Diego and Imperial Valley. The focus of the mentoring will be on college preparation and leadership development.

Comments closedThe 12th Annual San Diego MESA Alliance Leadership Summit, sponsored by Atkins, will take place at the Indian Hills Camp in Jamul on the weekend of March 1-3, 2013 (Friday-Sunday).
MESA, MESA Engineering Program (MEP), and Maximizing Science Potential (MSP) students from San Diego State University, San Diego City College, Southwestern College, and high schools in the MESA Schools Program (San Diego and Imperial Valley) will participate in various seminars and competitions that will promote the use of their leadership skills and various strengths attributes.
Your completion of this application does not guarantee you a spot. The Leadership Summit is limited to ~10 students per campus. Applications will be reviewed by MESA Directors and Advisors. Students will be notified of selection via e-mail. Once selected, students will need to complete the Gallup Organization’s online Strengths Quest test prior to attending to determine their top strengths. These top strengths will be utilized throughout the Leadership Summit.

MESA engages thousands of educationally disadvantaged students from middle school through a four-year college program.
